The Interrogation by Robin RoseauThe Interrogation by Robin Roseau is a BDSM romance. I am so glad that I am a lesbian because I didn’t have to suffer through 50 Shades of Grey, instead I got to read this book way before 50 Shades was even a thing. And this one is well written.

This is the story of Bethany and Katrina.

Bethany is the wide eyed innocent who is curious about the BDSM world and finds herself at an exclusive party after her friend, who got the tickets, is too sick to join her.

There she sees Katrina do a BDSM performance on stage and she finds herself mesmerised. After the performance Katrina comes to sit with Bethany and begins to talk to her. There is an instant attraction between the two women and Katrina invites Bethany to stay with her for the weekend as her submissive.

This is an interesting look at the BDSM world. I must say that I didn’t at all understand why anyone would want to be a dominatrix or a submissive but Rosseau handled it with an understanding that gave me some insight into the culture.

The book is well written, the story has layers and it is altogether a good read, especially if you are open to the BDSM culture.

The Characters

Both characters are written clearly enough that you can distinguish them from each other. I found them to be just a tad flat, though. Not so that they are awful or indistinguishable, just so that there isn’t huge character growth.

Having said that, this is the story of a girl discovering a new world and finding herself in the BDSM culture so there is that growth.

The Writing Style

Rosseau writes well. The story flows nicely, there are good plot points and there is enough new information to keep the pages turning.

The Pros

This is a good book, worth a look if you want something a little different. It is also a nice way to explore the BDSM culture while reading a romance.

The Cons

I wish the cover had a different font. The picture is so pretty and the font is just a little off. It was shortlisted for our Top 10 Lesbian covers but we ended up picking other covers in the end because of the font.

The Conclusion

This book is worth a read. You must be open minded to the BDSM culture, though, because there are instances when Bethany has to be completely submissive to Katrina and that can make one a little uncomfortable if you are not open to it.

Excerpt from The Interrogation by Robin Roseau

On the stage was a woman dressed in leather, but not at all like my outfit. She wore a black leather skirt and a tight leather corset that pushed her breasts high, barely covering her nipples. I was spending a lot of time watching her breasts, hoping for a clothing malfunction. She was a few years older than I was with her hair worn in a severe style. She wore patterned nylons and tall, black leather boots. Her hands were clad in black gloves that ended above her elbows. She was stunning, and I was looking at my first in-person dominatrix.

I couldn’t take my eyes off her.
