Tapping into Love by Monica McCallan is a book you’ll want to devour like a plate of pancakes with maple syrup.
This small town romance had me feeling all cozy since it mostly takes place in the very chilly Maple Run, Maine. I love these wintery reads because we never have snow where I live so it always has that magical feel for me. Believe me, it lives up to that winter magic.
Lucy is the golden girl of Maple Run. Everyone loves her and not just because she organizes the town social calendar and runs the inn (alongside her mother). Of course, that also means they’ve been supporting her grudge against the Westmoores and their locally made maple syrup.
Sierra has a great life in Boston, where she’s about to make partner at the law firm she works at. She has no time for relationships, but that’s just fine with her. Helping run Westmoore Estate with the brother she hasn’t seen for 15 years is not on her agenda.
When Sierra Westmoore waltzes into town for her father’s funeral and shows up at The Maple Inn, Lucy paints Sierra with the same brush as her ruthless father. Can Sierra prove to Lucy that not all Westmoores are like her father?
The Characters
Lucy is always letting her mouth run away with her and getting herself into trouble in the most charming way possible. If she could figure out how to keep her mouth shut and listen a little more, things would go a lot smoother for her. There is this adorable humanity to her inability to shut up though. Her little town loves her, and not just because she organizes all the local events. It’s not difficult to see why.
Sierra is a little harder around the edges. At first glance, she is so close to perfect that it’s easy to believe she is perfect. Getting to know Sierra is like a slow burn as her personality emerges on the page. By the halfway mark, I wanted to jump in and give her a hug because everything about her was beginning to make sense.
Both of these characters have such strong emotions and such rich backstories that it was a pleasure to see them sorting out their differences.
The Writing Style
I loved the casual writing style in this. I always tell people that style can make or break a book. For me, the best books are the ones that strike the line between easy to read and funny. If you have read any of McCallan’s other works, you’ll have a great idea of what to expect from Tapping into Love. It’s just like cuddling into a blanket on a cold winter day.
The Pros
There is a standout star of this book that I haven’t mentioned yet. It’s Chloe, Lucy’s best friend’s daughter. All she wants from life is candy and cuddles. I think we can all relate.

If you’re looking for a quick and enjoyable read with a cozy feel, this is well worth picking up. This one got my attention from page one and held it right until the end.

“I’m Lucy, and I’ll be happy to help with anything you need during your stay.”
“As in Lucy Parsons?” Sierra slipped her sunglasses from her face and put them on the counter between them.
Lucy Parsons had been a few years behind her in grade school, slightly mousy as she remembered and more often with her nose in a book than talking to other students. That was no the woman in front of her now, her auburn hair framing her face, thick and lush with strands of gold woven throughout. She still had the book, but Sierra’s thoughts were not at all innocent as she watched a light blush wrap around the woman’s neck like a festive scarf.
Lucy laughed softly, the whites of her teeth contrasting against her flushed skin like it was the funniest thing she’d heard recently. “The one and only. Especially in a town this small. Sadly, I’m having trouble putting a name to your face.” There it was again, when she calmed from her laughter, the probing focus of her stare that made Sierra feel slightly uneasy.
But the truth was going to come out sooner or later. It had been silly to even use her middle name instead of her last name. If this town was anything like it had been when she was a kid, news of her return would spread faster than butter on a fresh biscuit.
“We went to school together, I think. I’m Sierra. Sierra Westmoore,” she said, extending her hand across the counter.
