Lost At Sea by A.E. Radley is a romance taking place on one of the world’s most luxurious cruise liners. Annie Peck has to get out of town quickly and jumps at the chance to escape onto a soon-to-be departing cruise ship. Bumping into a lookalike who wants to swap lives with her for a week is the best piece of luck Annie’s had in a long time. But she must keep under the radar and in no way draw attention to herself. Captain Caroline West is the master of the ship and a stickler for rules and regulations. Annie would be well advised to keep away from her if she wants to keep her secret – and avoid arrest for identity theft. But she is an extremely attractive older woman and Annie can’t avoid her – and really doesn’t want to. Caroline hasn’t been attracted to anyone in a long time and despairs of finding a woman who will be able to deal with her lifestyle. Will they be able to get past who they are – who they really are? Because secrets and lies have a habit of coming out.
The Characters
Annie was scared, really scared, and that impacted on her life and how she ended up on the ship. But as we got to know her, her humour and kindness stood out. She didn’t like lying to people, especially Caroline. Her character was written so well. I could picture this woman in front of me and I understood her.
Caroline seemed to be buttoned-up and all about rules and regulations. Given her background and career that was understandable. But there was so much more to her. I really took to this character. Once she began to open up, I could see why she acted the way she did. And she was a really hot older woman. C’mon, who doesn’t love that!
The Writing Style
A.E. Radley knows how to write great characters. And it’s not just the main characters she puts so much effort into. I loved them, but I was astounded at how well drawn the minor characters were, especially Elvin and Graham. The revelations are perfectly paced in this story. We find out more about their backgrounds as they get to know each other. The reader can so easily believe everything A.E. Radley writes because she is so observant and makes the world so real in her books. Her descriptions are so vivid that I had no problem putting myself on that ship with the characters.
The Pros
The story was exciting and gripping from the start. The age-gap romance had me from the moment they set eyes on each other. I wanted them to be together. The writing was beautiful – descriptive, real and very funny at times.
The Cons
None whatsoever!
The Conclusion
There’s not a single thing I didn’t love about this book. It’s the best A.E. Radley book I’ve ever read- and I’ve read most of them. The characters, the setting and the writing are excellent. It’s the perfect age-gap love story, with two of the most adorable characters.

Caroline West was confident, welcoming, authoritative, and attractive. She wasn’t at all what Annie had been expecting. In her mind, Captain West had been a man, definitely white, probably old. She guessed Caroline was in her early fifties, old enough to command respect but still in her prime.
