The Fall by Robin AlexanderThe Fall by Robin Alexander is an audio book produced by Dog Ear Audio and it is utterly charming. Narrated by  Lisa Cordileone – easily one of my favourite narrators for audio books – this little gem will transport you into a happy little romance and make you fall in love with The Fall.

There are two intertwined stories in this one, the main being a romance between Harper and Lydia, two teenagers in their last year of high school. However, it is not quite that simple to fall in love when you add two wacky families and a growing attraction between Noel (Harper’s aunt) and Sunny (Lydia’s mother).

The question becomes will all four women find happiness?

The Characters

Robin Alexander did a beautiful job with separating the characters and plot lines to make it easy to follow. In a story with as many characters this is not easy unless you make them really memorable.

The Writing Style

This is a light novel with quirk and cheek and a ton of personality. It is enchantingly written with a great pace that keeps things moving along even though there are very few major events.

The Narration

Cordileone does such a lovely job of making me feel like I am inside the story. Her voices for the different characters remain constant throughout and are different enough that you can pick up who is talking.

She did a fantastic job on this book.

The Pros

It is so sweet and so quirky and such a happy, wonderful story that you will find yourself returning to it when you want a pick me up.

It kept me entertained throughout.

The Cons

Not a single one.

If you are looking for a sweet, funny and touching story of family and falling in love then this is the perfect audio book for you.

Do go and get the audio book because it is so worth it.

Excerpt from The Fall by Robin Alexander

Across the gym peeking out from behind the stands, another girl watched the group nervously as she contemplated making her move. Lydia Chase didn’t know Harper, but she hoped that would change very soon.

Between classes, she walked a few feet behind Harper unnoticed, gazing at shiny long hair and admiring a chapely backside. Harper had curved the twigs who starved themselves couldn’t compete with. Lydia had grown tired of skulking around hoping Harper would set her green-eyed gaze on her. She was about to force the hand of fate and hoped it didn’t bitch-slap her for the trouble.

“Lydia Chase, reporting for duty under protest.”

Harper turned and found a girl standing erect, her hand held to her head in salute. Both wrists were covered in corded bracelets that went halfway up her arms. Though it was only the first week of October, she was wearing a knit cap; wisps pf bright along hair stuck out from beneath it. Both of her ears were full of studs, including the cartilage. Gary blue eyes regarded Harper with disdain.

“I don’t remember meeting you when you signed up,” Harper said, trying to recall Lydia’s face.”

“I didn’t sign up for this bullshit. I’m here to serve out a sentence. Mrs. Talbot gave me the choice between doing this and detention.”

Harper frowned. “Do you even know how to paint?”

“Let’s see.” Lydia put her hands on her hips and looked up at the ceiling. “You stick a brush into a bottle, then rub it on paper while staying inside the lines. I’m not on the honour roll, but I think I can handle it.”
