Dark-Dreamer-by-Jennifer-FultonDark Dreamer by Jennifer Fulton is the perfect novel for me. It has romance, intrigue, mystery, horror and terrific writing.

After listening to Grave Silence, where Fulton wrote as Rose Beechman, I was so impressed with her story telling that I looked up her other novels. This is the first in the Dark Vista series and it is so good.

The story is about Rowe Devlin, a best selling horror writer who is suffering from a severe case of writer’s block after two failed novels. Looking for a fresh start and perhaps even some inspiration, she buys an old Victorian house in Maine called Dark Harbor Cottage. (Isn’t that the perfect name?)

Devlin gets a little more inspiration than she was hoping for when she discovers that her new home is haunted by a rather nasty ghost. To make matters more complicated she discovers that her neighbours are identical twins, Phoebe and Cara Temple. Both deeply alluring, Rowe struggles to decide who she finds more attractive.

Together she and Phoebe try to find out why her house is haunted in an effort to put the ghost to rest.

While this is going on the Temple twins are drawn into an FBI investigation of a possible serial killer. Having to face life-changing choices, the sisters are pulled in different directions with the possibility of losing the only real family that they have left, one another.

The Characters

Devlin and Phoebe play the main characters with Cara playing a strong side lead. All three are well written and completely unique. I loved how Fulton managed to create characters so deep and complex.

The Writing Style

It’s excellent. The story flows like water. In a word – perfect.

The Pros

This is a really amazing read. It is so unique that it is an absolute must for anyone interested in a lesbian fiction novel that is different.

The Cons

None. Go read the book.

Sheena's favourite novels - reviewed on TheLesbianReview.comThe Conclusion

This is one of those novels that I just want to rub myself in because it is so awesome. I loved it. I loved it. I loved it. The only thing that would make it better would be being able to read it again as if I have never read it before.

Okay, seriously, have you not read it yet? Fine, I will give you an excerpt – but truly – go read it.

Excerpt from Dark Dreamer by Jennifer Fulton

Cara blinked, then smiled a broad wayward smile, and at last Rowe saw a difference between the sister’s faces. Cara’s smile involved more muscles and made more creases. It was vivacious, sensual, and engaging. By contrast Phoebe’s held a siren’s hypnotic allure, its very remoteness a drug. Cara’s smile made you feel good, Phoebe’s made you crave her.
