Michelle Blakey

Michelle Blakey is a great lover of specfic and manages to be even more enthusiastic about Lise Mactague’s writing than I am, which tells you something since I thought I was MacTague’s biggest fan.

You can find all of Michelle’s reviews here.

And this is what she says about herself:

Who I Am

I am a bit of a daredevil and love a good adrenaline rush.  I will try anything once!  I have been skydiving and bungee jumping, I play hockey, downhill mountain bike, scuba dive and love backcountry hiking. My wife and I travel extensively, and we have hiked arctic trails, mountain ranges, through rainforests and across deserts, swam with sharks and giant manta rays and have been stalked by bears. Our goal is to see as much as this planet has to offer while we can!

Music is another passion of mine. My musical tastes are as varied as my tastes in fiction, but I tend to lean more toward the heavier tunes. Oh, and I mustn’t forget video games, especially of the RPG variety.

I work in supply chain for a global organization and spend much of my day analyzing data and optimizing processes. So, I really look forward to spending my downtime with an entertaining book!

I have been happily married to the most amazing woman for 14 years (and counting) and love her more every day that passes.

Michelle's Favourite BooksBooks I Like

I have very eclectic tastes, but my true love lies in the many genres that fall under the umbrella of speculative fiction. My favourite aspect of the genre is that at their core, these books hypothesize about imagined possibilities. Whether focusing on technology, social constructs, or a myriad of other topics, speculative fiction presents both utopic and bleak scenarios that I can use to wrap my head around current events. The exploration of ‘what ifs’ is a passion of mine and I find these stories thought provoking and cathartic while also entertaining. And, of course, there is an escapist attraction to the genre, absolutely anything can happen! I love seeing what an author’s imagination can produce!

Books I Don’t Like

I just finished 4 straight years of schooling so….text books! In all seriousness though it is pretty hard to turn me off, so I will read and enjoy pretty much any genre. However, the book does need to be well written and creative with great characterization.

Why I Review

I am in my 40’s and have only recently discovered lesfic (I know, wasted youth!).

TLR was instrumental in supporting my newfound passion with the plethora of wonderful books reviewed and the amazing people always there to recommend the perfect read. It has had such a profound impact on me that I relish the opportunity to help others experience the same joy! I also delight in the opportunity to give back to the wonderful authors I have come across who have had such an impact on myself and so many other readers.

Average Number Of Books Read A Week

I read anywhere from 1 to 3 books a week depending on what’s happening at work and home.

As A Reviewer I Am…

Very open minded. I have a wide variety of interests and enjoy anything that makes me think, question the status quo or ponder different possibilities. Originality will always win me over regardless of genre. I would say that characterization is key for me. I love complex, well layered, strong and intelligent women in stories and am always open to discuss a great book!
