100 Best Lesbian Books To Start With

Welcome to The Lesbian Review’s list of 100 Best Lesbian Books To Start With. This list will introduce you to new authors and the books that we recommend you start with.

In most cases the books we have chosen are a good representation of an author’s body of work, rather than her most outstanding novel. This list is filled with books we enjoyed and recommend so don’t be shy to give them each a read.

As lesbian fiction grows, so it becomes easier to get complacent with certain authors as your only source of reading material. This is not only frustrating because you wait for them to come out with brand new books, but it can also mean that your reading list feels repetitive. And with so many fantastic authors there is no reason not to explore (even beyond these books).

A special thanks go to the team who helped me put together this list. It took a few months to iron out not only who we would be showcasing but how we would be showcasing them and which books to recommend. If your favourite author isn’t listed below, please forgive us. Each reviewer
recommended books from their go-to authors, and we regret only that we couldn’t feature every
woman who’s writing amazing lesbian fiction. Also a hug to Anna who came up with the original idea for the list.

Sheena is the founder of The Lesbian Review.

She discovered lesbian fiction when she was 19. Radclyffe and Karin Kallmaker soon became favourite authors and she spent a large part of her hard earned income on shipping books from Amazon.com to her home in South Africa.

Over the years she became frustrated with purchasing mediocre lesbian fiction feeling like it was a waste of her money and time. And so she decided to share only the best books and movies with lesbians who are looking for only the best. And so, The Lesbian Review was born

My name is April Adams and I am an accountant at a civil service office. Even though I read a wide variety of lesbian fiction, I enjoy mystery and thriller books the most because I love the state of suspense the stories have me in until the end and I find out “who’s done it.”

Born and raised in Michigan, Kelly is a latecomer to the writing scene. She works in the automotive industry coding in Visual basic and Excel. Her avid reading and writing provide a nice balance to the daily order of data, allowing her to juggle passion and responsibility. Her writing style is as varied as her reading taste and it shows as she tackles each new genre with glee. But beneath it all, no matter the subject or setting, Kelly carries a core belief that good should triumph. She's not afraid of pain or adversity, but loves a happy ending. She's been pouring words into novels since 2015 and probably won’t run out of things to say any time soon.
