New-Beginnings-by-KC-RichardsonNew Beginnings by KC Richardson was read and reviewed by the author, KA Moll

This is the KC Richarson’s debut novel and my first opportunity to read her work.

I can’t imagine my wife cheating on me. Never. I can’t imagine coming home to find that she had. As I write this review, I’m trying to wrap my mind around what it might have been like for the main character in this story, what it might have been like to be the victim of that kind of betrayal. I think the experience could change you. I think it could make you act in ways that aren’t consistent with who you really are.

Jordan Roberts is a physical therapist. Basketball is her sport. She’s a player, has been since discovering that her partner was unfaithful. Having survived that broken heart, she vows to never love again. For seven years, she’s been content with one-night stands. When her path crosses with Kristen’s, Jordan is forced to reach inside herself for the courage to love again.

Kristen Murphy is an HR executive. She’s also a woman whose marriage is on the rocks. As she struggles to deal with that reality, she looks to her friends, especially Jordan, for support. As their friendship grows stronger, Kristen re-discovers her attraction to women. In this case, it’s her attraction to one woman, Jordan.

Pure and simple, this is a sweet slow-burn romance. It’s cozy and warm. At its heart, New Beginnings by KC Richardson is a story about soul mates that fall in love.

Writing Style

This is the author’s debut novel. It was well written and easy to follow. Richardson’s writing style includes quite a bit of internal monologue and telling. For me, less would have been better. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Characters

The characters were likable. I would, however, have liked to see them a bit more developed. The romance between Jordan and Kristen was believable and it was easy to root for them as a couple.

Pros

If you’re looking for a sweet romance, the kind of romance that you can curl-up with as a fire crackles in your fireplace, then this could be your book. It’s a simple love story that leaves you feeling good.

Cons

Richardson’s writing style includes considerable internal monologue and telling.

The plot was quite simple and predictable.

Conclusion

If you’ve read any of my work, you probably already know that I believe wholeheartedly in the concept of soul mates. I believe that for each person, there is another person who makes them whole. After reading this novel, I’m guessing that KC Richardson is a believer as well. So if you’re in the mood for a cozy, slow-burn romance and want to read a story about two soul mates that come together and fall in love, New Beginnings by KC Richardson may be just the book you’re looking for. I enjoyed reading it and look forward to reading future works by this author.

Excerpt from New Beginnings by KC Richardson

Jordan walked down the hall to the waiting room, still perusing the chart as she entered. “Hello, Ms. Murphy. I’m Jordan Roberts, and I’ll be your—” She came to an abrupt halt when she looked up and saw Kirsten sitting in the waiting room. Time stopped. Oh my God. She’s here. And she’s my patient. Fuck. Kirsten stood and started laughing. She approached Jordan with her hand held out to shake hands. “Well, this is a small world, isn’t it? I had no idea you were a physical therapist.”
