Janes-World-by-Paige-BraddockJane’s World by Paige Braddock is a delightful story about Jane and her mail-order bride from Transnistria, Natasha.

While at work in the library, Jane gets a phone call from her roommate Ethan. He tells her there is an urgent situation at home and that she should return at once. When Jane arrives she does not expect to find her very own bride to be waiting for her. As it turns out, Jane’s PayBuddy account was hacked and a transaction was processed leaving her standing with a beautiful Transnistrian who was looking for love.

To make matters more complicated Jane’s ex girlfriend, Dorothy has left Jane with a broken heart and no matter how much she would like to fall for this beautiful, exotic woman who came all the way to find her, she can’t forget Dorothy.

Throw in a motley crew of lesbian sidekicks, ex cops and nerds and you have a wonderful read.

Jane’s World started as an online comic which makes turning it into a novel a risk. Comics are visual and they usually don’t have a lot of character growth or a story large enough to sustain an entire novel. Having said that, Braddock has had writing experience under the pen name Missouri Vaun, so I was keen to read this novel.

I was also curious about why Braddock would write this novel as herself rather than Vaun but when I read it I could see the reasoning clearly. Vaun’s novels are romances that tend to be serious. Jane’s World is anything but serious.

I have really enjoyed Braddock’s other works but this one feels somehow more natural to her. Her charming characters and the angst that she provokes as we go from wanting Jane to pick first one then the other women in her life makes this the perfect read.

The Characters

Jane is an unassuming, simple character who is rather dense sometimes. The complicated nature of women seems to baffle her and she often just goes along for the ride. But there is an innocent charm about her and a solid, romantic heart that makes her a fantastic lead.

I really enjoyed the fact that we saw the story from Dorothy’s point of view as well. She is a more complex character in some regards but also finds herself in situations that she could have avoided. She has a great character arc.

I am hoping that Jane’s sidekick Doris and her library friend Elaine both get more love in the next novel or at least spin offs of their own – the sidekick was a fantastic character and someone as hot as Elaine Should not be ignored.

The Writing Style

I was sucked straight into the story and couldn’t put it down. This was a wonderful read with loads of laugh out loud moments, just enough angst to keep me on the edge of my seat and several utterly ridiculous situations to keep me entertained.

The Pros

This is a great book. I also loved that Braddock provides several full page illustrations. It just works for this novel.

The Cons

My biggest con is that Braddock won’t commit to a second book until it seems like people like this one. I recon we should start a petition. If you are in agreement then tweet this – use the box belo

If you want a romantic, but not overly so, sweet, laugh out loud novel that will be a highly entertaining read then this is it. It is, in a word, beautiful.

Excerpt from Jane’s World by Paige Braddock

If it was possible for Natasha to look even sexier from this lower vantage point, then she did. Jane felt heat rising to her cheeks as Natasha’s barely covered breasts hovered near her face. “You write such beautiful things to me. Things of romance and desire. You don’t like what you see?”

“Yes. I mean, no. What I mean is that you’re very beautiful.” Jane slid sideways and stood up quickly, putting a few feet between them. “It’s just that this whole situation was a big surprise to me. You get that, right?”

“We make love and then you will see this is good thing.” Natasha toyed with Jane’s bow tie. She pulled one side loose from the knot and allowed her fingers to trail down the buttons at the front of Jane’s shirt. Jane didn’t realise she had taken a few steps backward until her back hit the closed bedroom door.
