The Copper Egg by Catherine FriendThe Copper Egg by Catherine Friend had me like a woman possessed. Once the book’s story started unfurling I couldn’t set it down.

It’s been three years since Claire Adams fled Peru and left behind everything she loved. Hurt by the betrayal of who she thought to be her one true love, Sochi, she settles for a mediocre job in the states.

A package arrives addressed to Claire containing three eggs, one gold, one silver, and one copper along with a note. The note claims the eggs are artifacts from the missing tomb of King Chacochutl. It taunts Claire into making a trip to Peru to find his tomb.

Things have changed for Sochi Castillo since Claire has left. Her own love for Peru and its ancient artifacts has blinded her and taken her down a road most don’t travel. Now she hears Claire Adams is back in Peru looking for King Chacochutl’s tomb and is determined to take all the spoils of the tomb for her country Peru once Claire finds it.

The Characters

Our two main characters are Claire Adams and Sochi Castillo. I can’t say that I truly loved one character more than the other (although I totally lean towards Sochi) because they are so well written. The female leads are strong, smart, and consistent.

The Writing Style

Well, I ate this book for breakfast. I just find Catherine Friend’s writing style easy and fun. There are clever and funny lines as well as excellent pacing for the romance and tons of adventure.

The Pros

I really love the way the author played the romance in this book. It is really spaced out and never rushed.

The Cons

No cons for me, just another amazing Catherine Friend book.

The Conclusion

I absolutely love books like The Copper Egg with its excellent blend of action, adventure, and romance. Anyone looking for a female Indiana Jones this is an amazing book and I totally recommend it.

Excerpt from The Copper Egg by Catherine Friend

They returned the boat to Pedro, then strolled the winding concrete trail lined with palm trees to the parking lot. By the time they reached Claire’s dark blue Fiat, which she’d borrowed from a friend, Sochi’s heart pounded. She knew what she wanted but was terrified to take it, even though there was no one else in the lot. Never had she been so bold.

Claire paused before unlocking her door. “Do I owe you anything for the lesson?”

Sochi gently pressed Claire up against the car, then slid her hands up Claire’s back. They were nearly the same height. “You owe me nothing,” she said. “But I think you should know that I—right here, in this parking lot, on this perfect day—am about to kiss you. So if you need to run away or scream for help, you have about four seconds…three seconds…”

Desire flared in Claire’s eyes. Sochi moved in closer, stopping just shy of her lips.

“Two,” they whispered together, then, “one.”
