Coming To Terms by KA MollComing to terms by KA Moll is the story about Sawyer, a cop with a history that is too difficult for her to cope with. She turns to alcohol and anger because she has no other way of venting.

When her twin sister enters the hospital after a breakdown, Sawyer is forced to face her fears and tell Sage, one of her sister’s caretakers, about her past.

Sage is divorced and prefers being single to sleeping with a husband. After meeting Sawyer she begins to realise that her attraction to Sawyer is the key to discovering who she really is and why she never found love before. But before they can become a happily ever after couple, Sage must help Sawyer face and banish her demons.

The Characters

Sawyer is an interesting character. She is a police officer and really wants to be a good person. She keeps failing herself, though, and ends up hating and punishing herself until she drinks away the feelings.

Sage is approaching 40 and happily divorced. She has never found anyone sexually attractive until she meets Sawyer. Throughout the book she is caring and understanding. She stands up to Sawyer on some occasions, but even then she is doing it because she is helping Sawyer. I found Sage to be a little bit flat because of this and would like to see her mess up.

Sawyer’s twin sister, Amber, and Sawyer’s ex, Laurie, are two sub characters. I would like to see more character development from them and I would enjoy exploring Amber’s transformation from mental breakdown to sanity. (I guess KA Moll will just have to write a follow up where Amber and Laurie are the main characters.)

Another sub character is Sawyer’s father. Making him less evil and adding depth would have made him a far greater opponent than he turned out to be.

Having said that, the characters are all clearly written and I do empathise with Sawyer’s journey.

The Writing Style

The story is a gentle journey. There is an underlying understanding of the psychology behind facing ones fears and coming out on the other side intact.

There is also a sense of deep love and what it feels like to be whole when you find your soul mate.

The Pros

KA Moll wrote a touching story about forgiving oneself and about allowing others to help.

The Cons

A few of the characters were oversimplified.

The review copy that I received had some grammatical and layout errors in it, I believe it has since been fixed, though.

The Conclusion

Don’t let the cover fool you, this is not an action book. It touches briefly on both action and romance genres but it is an internal story of Sawyer finding release of her emotional pain. This is not a book for someone looking for a thriller or romance.

This is a book for a reader who is looking for a journey of forgiveness and of overcoming.

Excerpt From Coming to terms by KA Moll

Sawyer felt a vein twitch in her neck. Fear and anger consumed her. Self-control slipped through her grasp. What a condescending bastard. She broke into a sweat. “My sister’s not crazy.” She glared at the psychiatrist and then Sage. “Amber’s smart, witty, and totally sane. If you people are trying to say she’s schizophrenic, you’re the ones who are crazy!”

Sage scooted closer and gently laid her hand on Sawyer’s arm.
