Color Blind by Siera MaleyColorblind by Siera Maley was one of those books where I read the first three sentences and knew that I would completely love it.

Harper has the ability to see the age people will die at. It is plastered to peoples foreheads. Try as she might to prevent her mother’s death she can’t. From then on out her view on life is a little pessimistic. Harper decides never to get close to anyone again.

Until one day she almost runs over Chloe. Chloe is new to the neighbourhood and she is so full of life. Harper can’t resist wanting to spend more time with Chloe. The only problem is, is there is a big ol’ 16 on Chloe’s forehead. The fact that Chloe is already 16 means she has less than a year to live. Heck, she only has until the end of the summer to live!

Harper becomes determined to beat the numbers.

The Characters

Harper has had a rough life. She is 17 and lives in San Francisco California and works at a fast food job she hates. Due to the death of her mother and her ability to see what age people die at she closes herself off from the world. She doesn’t do much but read, work, and hang out with her father.

Chloe is adorable. She is vibrant and full of life. She is an adrenaline junky and is determined to live life to its fullest and die with no regrets.

Chloe really captures my heart with her love and clever banter. She is pretty fearless and has a go getter attitude. From the beginning she doesn’t even hide the fact she has feelings for Harper.

 The Writing Style

The writing flows smoothly and focuses on the main point of the story which is Harper and her determination to defeat the numbers. The story has some adorable banter that made me smile and laugh to myself. There was one point where I was horizontal not even moving and I got nervous and I could feel my heart beating in my chest.

The Pros

This book really raises a good question. What would you do if you could see the age that someone would die? I have never come across this concept and thought it was unique.

The Cons

If I could see the number of cons a book was going to have on the book cover this book would have a big fat zero on it because there were none.

brooklyn-faveThe Conclusion

This was such an interesting concept! How would you live your life if you had this ability? It’s a cute and unique story with an adorable romance. I recommend it to readers who enjoy YA novels, especially if you like endearing romances. (Please mark this as Brooklyn’s Favourite)

Excerpt from Colorblind by Siera Maley

One night, after we’d finally untangled ourselves from each other and agreed to try and go to sleep, Chloe gently traced letters into my back with her finger while I, half-asleep, guessed what she was trying to spell out.

“U… end word. R… end word. P… R …E…T…” I spelled out, before laughing quietly and saying, “Aw, thank you. You’re pretty, too.”

“You’re too good at this. I was going to say ‘you’re pretty annoying’, by the way, but you didn’t let me finish.”
